Case Study: Volunteer Dawn
Background: As a part of my certificate, I was tasked with designing a user experience that would help people sign up to volunteer for local organizations.
Year: 2021
Role: UX, UI Designer
Tool: Adobe XD, Google Sheets
Research: Early qualitative-based surveys showed some common themes between users:
Volunteering helps people with their well being, benefits multiple parties and has the potential to help better this chaotic world. Through interviews and surveys, multiple users expressed that they prefer to use platforms that are simple and cut straight to the chase.
Persona: Steve
Age: 26 Education: Bachelor's Degree (C.S)
Hometown: Denver, CO
Family: Single, No Kids
Occupation: Software Engineer
Steve: “When trying to volunteer, I like to use platforms that get the task done and leave me stress free”
Goals:
Steve is a recent college grad that appreciates a simple and useful platform.
Frustrations:
Does not enjoy when volunteer platforms lose focus rather than sticking to the core purpose.
Onto early paper wireframe process:
Brainstorming paper wireframes.
Next up, the first digital wireframes mockup.
Transitioning from mobile to desktop felt a little tricky at first.
After conducting usability studies with several users, I changed some layouts and added improved features.
Through user feedback, found that formatting needed work, needed to add more detail to some sections, footer bar needed some work and added more accessible actions for users.
Prototyping and Animation
Went through a rigorous and detailed prototyping process in Adobe XD
Main Overview
Overall Finalized project.
Moving forward
Impact:
If the volunteering platform can help spread hope and change around the world to at least one person than my goal was met.
What I learned:
UX takes patience and can sometimes be filled with a roller coaster of emotions when actually wanting to complete a project.
